B2 is not the finish line: language levels that matter on German wards
Why employers ask for more than a certificate date, and how to practise clinical communication before day one.
A B2 certificate opens many recognition doors, yet ward work asks for something narrower: short, accurate speech during handovers, medication queries, and family conversations under time pressure.
What employers listen for
- Can you describe a night-shift escalation without switching entirely to English?
- Do you understand common abbreviations used on German charts?
- Can you clarify a dosage doubt politely with a physician?
Practice that transfers
Record yourself giving a two-minute handover on a familiar case, then again with German clinical vocabulary. Interview prep sessions at Networking Systems use similar drills so the first HR conversation does not become your first spoken clinical German of the month.
